Is that a happy Beastie?

This came from Dog Age email....

The direction of your dog's tail wags may tell you what's going on in his brain. Researchers found that dogs consistently wag their tails to the right at the sight of something pleasing and familiar -- their owners, for example. A dog's left brain, like a human one, deals with positive emotions. And because the left brain controls the right side of the body, happy excitement will send a pup's tail wagging to the right. Tails take a left turn when dogs greet someone less familiar or when they encounter intimidating behavior in other dogs. Wagging to the left reflects feelings like fear and anxiety.
But then when they wag all over from head to tip and everything in between...well there's excitment for sure eh?

Yes we can all get along!

I've seen this before but couldn't resist sharing.....

Much of life can never be explained but only witnessed"

NAIROBI (AFP) - A baby hippopotamus that survived the tsunami waves on the Kenyan coast has formed a strong bond with a giant male century-old tortoise in an animal facility in the port city of Mombassa, officials said The hippopotamus, nicknamedOwen and weighing about 300 kilograms (650 pounds), was swept down Sabaki River into the Indian Ocean , then forced back to shore when tsunami waves struck the Kenyan coast on December 26, before wildlife rangers rescued him.

"It is incredible. A-less-than-a-year-old hippo has adopted a male tortoise, about a century old, and the tortoise seems to be very happy with being a 'mother'," ecologist Paula Kahumbu, who is in charge of Lafarge Park , told AFP. "After it was swept away and lost its mother, the hippo was traumatized. It had to look for something to be a surrogate mother Fortunately , it landed on the tortoise and established a strong bond. They swim, eat and sleep together," the ecologist added. "The hippo follows the tortoise exactly the way it followed its mother. If somebody approaches the tortoise, the hippo becomes aggressive, as if protecting its biological mother," Kahumbu added. "The hippo is a young baby, he was left at a very tender age and by nature, hippos are social animals that like to stay with their mothers for four years," he explained. "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." This is a real story that shows that our differences don't matter much when we need the comfort of another. We could all learn a lesson from these two creatures of God, "Look beyond the differences and find a way to walk the path together."

Good Feedback

Well today was a day of recognition and it made me feel like my heart was being petted! Tica's mom called to thank me. We're still working together so I was surprized, but evidently the work we put toward Tica cooperating a bathtime made a big difference for all involved. Tica was not stressed and neither was mom. So nice to hear about the good things! Totally love it.

Later I got an email from an old client who last I heard, was at her wits end with her beastie. She just wanted to let me know how happy she is with her girl...ah sweet success, nothing smells as sweet!

That's where the B word came from

Ah, there's nothing like having two bitches in the house! I wanted to keep learning and developing my skills right? What was I thinking?

Just kidding, though really do have to put the work in when you have 2 dogs wanting to go at each other. Today was a jewel though. I can't count the number of times Magique made the decision to leave Bella alone. She gets lots of recognition for her work and Lord knows I appreciate seeing the results of time well spent.

Bella still needs to be reminded to back off, but she is young and full of herself...fun to watch and to remember what it was to be that way myself eh?

They all curl up in their spots and wait for me get off the computer, so I'll pay attention to their beautiful cooperative mode and have some cuddle time myself.

Canny Collars called

I was pretty jazzed this afternoon when Sean from Canny Collars in England called in response to my email! I love the product and have been selling and giving it away for a couple of months now. I like it so much I enquired about becoming a distributor and it looks like that's going to happen soon...yippee!

Though I'm not a sales person, I've made no secret of my collar fettish, so it was just a matter of time before I got involved with some collar company eh!

If you have any questions about this amazing product, just give me a call and I look forward to talking to you!

Duncan enjoyed working today...

What a day today. Our first client was at 7:30am and the last client finished at 9:00pm. Duncan assisted with the first two and the last one. He was very happy as he's had so little work for a year now. It was fun to have him out and watch him get back in the groove. I've really got to work on his stays though...we be rusty...

Time flys!!

I can't believe the summer is gone already! I've been so busy since June that I've hardly had time to change my mind, much less my web pages or do any blogging.

That's going to have to change and today is as good a day as any eh?

Bella and Magique have been having a hard time getting along lately, so I've picked up the old training gloves again and started some much needed work with them...the trainers dogs have no shoes, or something like that.

Bella did very well yesterday, but had more difficulty today. Magique has had a hard time both days, but she'll get back on board I'm sure.

Duncan will get to do some work with clients tomorrow and I know he'll appreciate that! He loves to work. I wish I had his drive and enthusiasm...maybe next life...
